Domain Names

By default you are provided with a Shivtr subdomain for use with your site, but if you own a full domain name you are welcome to use that as well. This section will cover how to setup a full domain name for use with our site.

General Setup

To use a full domain name with our service here is generally the steps you want to follow:

  1. Login to the Control Panel they provided you for managing your domain name
  2. Look for a section called DNS Settings that will allow you to control the domain name
  3. Look for a value called either A Record or A Host and change that to be 74.86.234.195; if there are several A Records you can modify, change both the @ and www ones to be 74.86.234.195
  4. Save the changes and you're done!

General Tips:

  • Do not change the name servers
  • Do not setup domain forwarding
  • Changes to your Domain Name take time to go into effect, usually a few hours.

GoDaddy Setup

Go Daddy is one of the largest domain registrar's on the web, and a pretty good choice if you want to buy a domain name

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Click on the My Products expandable menu and select Domain Manager.
  3. Launch the DNS Manager, and ensure the A (Host) for @ points to 74.86.234.195

DNS Exit Setup

With DNS Exit here are the steps to setup your domain name:

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the list of domain names show, click Edit DNS next to the one you want to change.
  3. Under Host Records (A) click Edit.
  4. For the IP value enter 74.86.234.195 and click Update Host.
  5. Click Domain DNS at the top to go back to the DNS Settings.
  6. Under Alias Records (CNAME) click Add Alias.
  7. For the Alias put www, leave it as Internal Host, and click Add Alias.
  8. Then in the top right click the Save Changes button and you're done!
