Make Headlines with our new Blocks!

Headlines Block
Our Headlines block offers a new way to make news important to your community more visible. The block displays headlines, which each have an image and optionally a title and caption; once setup the block will cycle through each of your headlines to show to your visitors, with a slick transition (choosable by you! with many options including fades, slides, slicing, folds and more).
Time Zone Block
In addition to the Headlines block we are also introducing another new block with this update, the Time Zone block. This block very simply displays the current time, with it's time zone on the side of your site. The Time Zone displays per user, so helps to clarify what times different content on the site are shown in, and will be helpful for guilds that span across multiple time zones.
Updated SWTOR Server Status
The SWTOR Server Status block now includes population info in its display, to show how full the server is.
Messages Multi-Update
The messages section of your site has now been updated to allow actions on multiple messages at a time, so you may now check several messages and mark them each as read, unread or for deletion.
Misc
- Guildapps which became un-changeable when the characters were disabled is now fixed. *bugfix

To make it display properly you must set the image height in the block settings, and your images should all be the same size (and match the width told to you in the block, since that is the available width to be shown in the block) =)

No more hack job hosting a slideshow on an external site. And its awesomely style-able as always. Would be nice to be able to link images from gallery as well as upload new ones but that's a minor niggle.

Is there any way to automatically resize images to fit properly, like the IMG tags do in forum posts so we don't need to manually resize our images?
Maybe include a checkbox to automatically resize the image to the requested dimensions?
The only downside I see to the current method is that I can't just throw a screenshot in there, I need to edit it to a very specific size.

The images height and width need to be static to work with the animations properly (since there is cut up boxes, slices, etc), so unfortunately this can't really be automated...

i know this isn't the place for this but..will there ever be a dc universe online tools for shiv..that's the game i play and shiv is the best website builder i've found..i'd really love to see dc universe being a shiv site game.
any way we could see the CSS code used for eminance? in fact i would be happy with anything that would let me use this new headline feature as a "top block" but still have 3 columns to work with underneath for content

I too play DCUO and we are using shivtr as our league site, we do need some DC Universe specific tools and hopefully they will read your message and start working on some for us.
The new headlines are GREAT!
But they don't appear to work in the Opera browser (apparently 2.5% of people use this browser!).
Is there a tutorial to help set this up cause right now I must be a complete noob for not seeing where to add the headlines and get it set up. The options in the edit don't actually add headlines to the block, just sizing and transitions. I feel really stupid at this point because I seem to be the only one not seeing how this works.

To set this up you would go to Site Admin -> Layout and in the Home column you would add the Headlines block.
Then you would go to your guild site, and see the Headlines block and click the "Edit link" in its footer...
That allow's you to set the blocks options; from there you should see a part where it says "Headlines" and below that a link for "Add another"; if you click "Add another" it allows you to add headlines; once you add some then the block will work =)

Brilliant! I have been waiting for Headlines for ages, and what a great implementation of the slideshow concept. Kudos to 8T & SP!
I used this as an impetus to clear up some of the niggles I had with our design, and with some extra CSS tweaks http://conclave.eu is looking nicer than ever!
Ya'll may want to make a post regarding Mumble. Apparently the built in certificate for Mumble expired and you may need to download and install an updated client for it to work.

Okay... I added the block, and then I get the CREATE button, which I click.
I then go to that screen, and select a photo that's in our IMAGES file, copy the URL, give it a Description and a Title, click CREATE -- and I get:
1 error prohibited this local headline from being saved
There were problems with the following fields:
•Photo file name can't be blank
So ummm? what am I goofing up?
Seems to be indicating that I have to upload an image -- but the images are already uploaded to the IMAGE section, and no longer on my drives for that reason.

My problem is, I do NOT want to upload an image; I already have the images uploaded to the site, in the IMAGES section... but the Headline > Create keeps wanting stuff off the hard drive, not existing images -- altho it also wants URLs for existing images. So, um.... Huh?

We will be doing an update in the future so that anywhere an image is required (such as for the image gallery, headlines block, member avatar, etc.) you will have the option to either upload an image or link to one...
For now it is only upload tho; if you already have these on your site you can download them then upload them back for the headlines =)

I didn't read through all of the comments, this may have been asked.
Is it possible to set the Headlines so that when you click, it opens in a new tab and not the existing one? Or be given the choice (if possible) - that way if you use External links for headlines it opens on a seperate page/tab to your website.

Currently there is no option to choose to open in a new tab; this is a good idea tho, so I've added a note for this in our todo list =)

That's awesome thanks! I've now been playing around with custom CSS, so my site has changed a LOT in the last hour or so haha. I know it's not really a comment for here, but is it possible to reduce the height of the "mumble server" and the "who is online" blocks? Would it be possible to auto-grow - i.e. start small but expand as more are added to either list?
I actually prefer my new layout, but got a lot more I want to achieve!

Is there a way to change "headlines" to something else?
Because I want to use these slide shows for more than just news. I guess I could always use a third party slideshow instead?
