Events Calendar 2.0!

Sep 20, 2011 at 08:56 AM in Features
This morning we are launching a major revamp to the Events Calendar, packing in many new features and enhancements we've had requested from you guys! =)

Role Based Signups

One of the most requested features for the Events Calendar has been Role Based Signups, which we're happy to announce have arrived! Events may now enable Role Based Signups, and if they do participants can be sorted into Tank, Damage and Support.

Attending Status

While it is useful to know who can attend an event, in many cases you also need to know who cannot attend. With this update, when a participant signs up for an event they are now asked "Will you attend this event?" and can choose "Yes", "Maybe" or "No".

Event Categories

Events can now have categories assigned to them. Categories include a name and color, and can be filtered on the Events Calendar, making events more manageable for larger guilds.

Event Tooltips

Event tooltips are now available as an optional feature of the Events Calendar. When enabled, mousing over an event link will show a tooltip with more detailed information about the event, including your signup status.

Detailed Audit Logs

The Audit Logs section of the Events Calendar has now been improved to track much more information, including signup information and group status.

Misc

  • Event Settings now include options to disable photos and tooltips
  • Item Tooltips will no longer get positioned outside the browser window *bugfix

Of course with any update, if you notice any issues please let us know on our Help & Support site =)

Heya, I wanted to check this out, and I saw some people signed up on our website were categorized under the wrong setting (i.e, a priest listed as dps), but when I went to admin, it took me to an error page. :(

Azhure 8 months ago

Ahh, nevermind I figured it out. Love it! :D

Hi Azhure,

Thanks for mentioning this; there was an issue with the admin section which should now be fixed.

For the actual roles, the users choose this when they signup; so a Priest can choose Tank, Damage or Support; they need to select the proper role they will fulfill =) [you can change this as an admin with the Add button tho, re-adding them as their proper role]

Cheers,

I can't figure out how to get to the Event Categories section. I tried to do Admin in Events section, but didn't see anything.

Cymre 8 months ago

Nice changes.

Just a minor issue I noticed. The Event tooltip shows the default dark background even though our website uses a light one like your Grend Light theme.

8 Toes 8 months ago

Hi Prophet,

You could click on Admin then go to the Categories tab. =)

And Cymre, thanks for mentioning that, this should now be fixed =)

Cheers,

"For the actual roles, the users choose this when they signup; so a Priest can choose Tank, Damage or Support; they need to select the proper role they will fulfill"

Are there any chance of getting a forth role, as heal for priests?

Britomartus 8 months ago

Blackrock, Deadmines - is this wow lol! Joking aside that's good work Sade, makes the calender so much better.

Cymre 8 months ago

Still seeing a dark background in the tooptip: http://mischiefus.shivtr.com/gallery_images/355769

@Iksiow - I thought the same thing at first but you can use 'Support' as heals (like I did) or you can add another option as heals if you want to.

8 Toes 8 months ago

Hi Cymre,

The tooltip is the same as for items, so its meant to be dark; but the content should show better on light sites now =)

For the roles, Support is meant as a more generic term, so it can apply for more games/classes than say Heal =)

If you categorize an event its name is displayed on a single line instead of wrapping when the text hits the ending of the column. Is there anyway this could be fixed so that a categorized event wraps just like a regular event?

As an example you can take a look at our Events section: http://praetoriansdcuo.shivtr.com/events You should be able to see that the older events are wrapped properly while the newer (categorized) events are not.

Thanks!

Thanks so much guys, this is a fantastic update and we love it!

You guys rock!!

"If you categorize an event its name is displayed on a single line instead of wrapping when the text hits the ending of the column. Is there anyway this could be fixed so that a categorized event wraps just like a regular event?" - This. Also can the text in these categoried events please retain the Site text colour rather than default to the grey?

Great update BTW guys. Nice one :)

Tree 8 months ago

Oh, and might there be any possibility of a 'key' to the categories appearing below each Month's calendar page, as only the admin appears to be able to find out what the different colours mean at the moment

Tree 8 months ago

When we add pics to an event, do we have to upload a new one each time, or can we use previously uploaded images from the gallery?

Zyida 8 months ago

I have mixed feelings about this update. I like a few of the new features, but others not so much.

I like the categories and pictures.

I don't like that healers are put under a role of "Support." Makes them sound less important and demeaning. I would prefer that this be changed or made editable.

I also don't care for the status and comments not being on the landing page of the event. Given user error, people will assume that those on the roles list (landing page) are confirmed; however, that is completely false. People posting as "maybe" could be docked DKP for a no show because that information is on a different page.

Your guild sites are still the best out there, but some of the latest changes seem to be done just for the sake of doing it. They don't necessarily make the sites better imo.

I'm not seeing anywhere I can add/edit a category under Events. When I click on Events, I just see the Calendar and a button that says "Add Event"

Coola 8 months ago

I'd like it if groups were re-namable. There's also a problem that i "discovered" which is that you cant add groups unless you change tabs in the raid window then change back. That is, if i uncheck "Enable Organizing Participants by Role?", making Groups the first tab that loads when the raid is clicked.

Coola 8 months ago

I also would like it if it was easier to keep track of who is ensured a spot in the raid without using the groups function.

Mortuus 8 months ago

Hey
Like more ppl have said... It could be nice to make the groups re-nameable og maybe consider at way to "confirm" players for the event. I know the groups can do that, but a way to confirm players who are choosen to attend the event would be very nice.

Mortuus 8 months ago

Also, the mouse over tooltip in the calender could be added to the front page calender addon. Like we have putted it on our front page: supebia-eu.com

Mortuus 8 months ago

Maybe link the signup to some kind of attendance site for officers, so they can track attendance more easy.

Mudhawk 8 months ago

Would be nice to be able to move yourself into another role. Right now looks like just have to delete and readd yourself.

Tree 8 months ago

Yes, it would be good to be able to drag and drop Roles/Groups as we did with groups before.

8 Toes 8 months ago

You should be able to drag-and-drop members between groups still =)

Justinus 8 months ago

Comment regarding Groups:
In our small guild, we tend to use our offspec a lot. Therefore when the raid if finally drafted, The raid leader drags the applicants into one of 3 groups (Tanks Healers DPS). The ability to create your own group names is no longer there :(

Otherwise it looks good!

Dhyra 8 months ago

It's nice to see some development on the calendar finally. However, there are a few pretty glaring problems:

1. Regular members can't see the order of sign-ups any longer. The calendar audit log for the admins is a good idea but it is not enough to replace the old feature of showing the order of sign-ups. Can't you just keep including the order of sign-ups exactly like it was before?

2. The audit log is pretty impossible to read if you have more than one event on your calendar with matching names. How about a possibility to view the audit log for just the event you're viewing at the moment.

3. You can only see if someone signed up as a "Maybe" from the status page. Everywhere else it makes no distinction, which is very confusing if you just want a quick status on the participation for the event. Color code the status and use a 5+2 (Yes+Maybe) format for the numbers or something?

4. Can't properly manage the roles or the groups. Need to be able to rename the groups. Need to be able to add custom roles. Maybe in some games healers are the only kind of support but there are games with actual support classes (Lotro for one) that are not healers.

Overall this new calendar doesn't feel very thoroughly planned, although it's probably a very slight improvement over the old one.

Tree 8 months ago

Feedback from our members and officers:
They don't like that we don't see the comments with the list of signatories any more.
They like that we can sign up in roles but not that we can't drag and drop them like groups.
They like the categories but not that the text stays on one line so you can't actually read more than 5 letters.
They like the pictures but not the way the text goes over them and they don't fill the calendar box.
They really like the rollover tooltip thing and that it tells you if you've signed to it. Though They wish it'd list the current signatories rather than who posted it etc.
They like that we can set an event to have sign ups of 'Characters' OR 'Members'.
Not being able to distinguish 'yes' or 'maybe' sign ups on the role page makes it pointless.
Overall it's viewed as "busy and confusing" requiring too much clicking around to see what you need to when it used to have all the information in one field of view.

Elderban 8 months ago

When a picture is added to the event, one should be able to click the picture as well to get to the event listing. It doesn't allow that right now.

Also, word wrapping is an issue. Events are getting cut off if they are longer than 20 or so characters.

Tree 8 months ago

Sorry for being a pain 8Toes, and thanks for the alterations this week, they're much appreciated.

Thought you my like to know that the pictures added to events don't seem to shrink-to-fit the event boxes in the calendar proper and front-page in Firefox in Windows7 (nor Opera in OSX10.6. Firefox in OSX10.6 is fine though).

The Growltigers 8 months ago

I think there is a general feeling that this is a backward step for us for our DDO guild, specifically the reduction from classes to roles. There are more than three playstyles and trying to put everyone into "tank", "dps" or "support" is a bit limiting and lumps crowd control mages, healers and buffing toons all together. Bards and wizards don't really like being called "Support"! All in favour of the roles idea but they really need to be customisable per guildsite.

Altir 8 months ago

I agree - Roles need to be customizable - and preferably on a per-event basis. Different events can require different roles. Ideally you should also be able to specify how many of each "Role" are allowed to sign up for the event as well so you don't end up with 30 tanks and no support.
