Introducing Trakkee & Announcing future MMO Guildsites Plans

Aug 27, 2010 at 05:10 PM in None
This weekend we are launching Trakkee, a contact manager and note taking web application designed for gamers, which aims to be your all-around personal assistant for everything related to your gaming life.

How will Trakkee work with MMO Guildsites? This depends how Trakkee ends up being used, so we'd love your feedback! But we do have several ideas, for example, if some guilds end up using Trakkee to discuss guild applicants in more detail we can add a "Copy Applicant to Trakkee" button when viewing a guildapp, which would only show for those with accounts for Trakkee and MMO Guildsites. Similar integration can be possible for characters and other features as well, and we'd love to hear suggestions from you.

How can you try Trakkee? Since we have a global accounts system now just head to http://trakkee.com and login with the same email/password you do to MMO Guildsites =)

Trakkee is still in beta for one more week, but we are announcing it here as we hope to get a bit of feedback first and make any necessary adjustments before going fully live, so upgrading to the premium plan is currently disabled. If you try Trakkee and have any thoughts to share, we'd love to hear them =)

What's next? It has been a little longer than normal since we posted an update for MMO Guildsites, part of that is due to getting Trakkee out the door, but a big part has also been planning for two big updates coming soon for MMO Guildsites - our theming revamp and our DKP revamp.

For our theming revamp, we will be re-writing the entire site in HTML 5 and CSS 3, and re-writing our theme editor to be much easier to use and much more powerful, and support new CSS 3 features such as drop shadows, gradients and rounded corners. The theming update will also introduce mobile support to MMO Guildsites, so you get a custom view of your guild site built for android/iphone, and our theme editor will include a mobile view for you to theme. We plan to launch our first previews for this in a few weeks =)

For our DKP revamp, we will also be re-writing the whole DKP section of the site. The new version will be based on dungeons, which then have all DKP data contained with them, and will be much more flexible and support more DKP systems such as EPGP, Suicide Kings and Loot Council. The DKP revamp will begin immediately following the theming update going live.

In the meantime, we have our guildapps update going live next weekend, which will allow applicants to view and comment on their own application (its an optional feature, so you can choose whether they are allowed to do so).

So despite a slow past few weeks as far as updates are concerned, lots is coming very soon =)

It's about time EPGP's implemented

Yay EPGP Support!

Just a quick few questions regarding EPGP support.

Will we be exporting the EPGP data and uploading it into the website, so that the in-game addon and the website will be identical data? (I've noticed some web-hosts do their own EPGP on the website and this tends to be disjointed from the in-game addon).

Also, when we upload raid logs in the raids section of the website, will we be able to remove the DKP column shown? Currently we upload the raid logs there, but don't show it to the guild because the DKP column and standings showing up has caused us some confusion in the past.

Ooh, sorry one more.

If we can upload our EPGP data to the website, will historic snapshots be kept and will we be able to export these old snapshots and restore them with the in-game addon?

If we were able to do this, then we'd be able to stop using the EPGPWeb.com altogether (Which would be great, the more we can keep on the guild-site the better)

Hi Belzemus,

EPGP likely will have an export option from the webapp, similar to how CT_RaidTracker currently works =)

With the new DKP revamp, each DKP system will have its own custom layout, so only the options relevent to EPGP will be shown if you use DKP, same with loot council, etc.

Historic snapshots sound like a nice idea, I've added a note for this and will see if we can get that added as well =)

I hope you have a good weekend,

Hmmm. Trakkee looks interesting but it seems that everything in it is manual - for example you can add a Guild but then have to manually add each member. I'd be interested in seeing a bit more detail - for example, in Groups, it may be good to have a drop-down box letting you select one of several different kinds of group (Guild, Faction, Family, Kinship, Other, etc), to allow the user to define whether the group is an in-game thing (a WoW Guild, for example) or a user-defined or purely IC thing (such as a group in a Guild that deals with raid organisation, or an underground smuggling ring that's roleplayed out by the members of said group).

I think some automation would go down really well, too. If the Character option automatically looked the character up in whatever database is relevant to the game (WoW Armory, for example) and populated the relevant fields with details, it could make things quicker and easier to set up large lists with information that could be really valuable. Similarly if 'Guild' (or 'Kinship' or whatever) were selected in the above suggested Group drop-down it could theoretically furnish the Group with a list of all of the characters. A simple 'Refresh from Database' button could allow the user to check if any changes have been made (characters deleted, new members, etc) since they last checked, and so on.

Oooh, having an option to export not only applicants but existing members to Trakkee would be great also.

It'd also be good to make the characters clickable in the Manage Members screen.

I'll post anything else I think of, if that's okay!

Hi Ayalessa,

Thanks that is great, and yes please post any other thoughts you may have =)

For exporting members from your guild to trakkee, that is a great idea, and something we're hoping to have up in the next day or two.

For importing data from outside sources, such as the armory, this is something we've been discussing tho are still unsure how best to approach it... we meant for trakkee as more of a place you would add characters or so you want to post notes about, mass imports of guild rosters from the armory may add a lot of characters you have no interest in and make it harder to sort through; but these are definitely features we are looking at and hoping to make work in some capacity.

When launching a new product, feedback makes such a great difference, so thanks for your post Ayalessa, and I hope you have a good weekend =)

Still waiting on Dungeons and Dragons Online content...

Mmm. Maybe a way, then, of having a partial import. Perhaps checkboxes next to the characters with the good ol' 'Select All' option up the top, so you could select all of them or only the characters you're interested in.

I was also thinking it'd be an idea to link the Groups function with the Guild function between Groups and Characters. Sort of, if you've made a Group (called, say, House Monkey) and also a character (let's call him Monkeyface McMonkey), and you then put 'House Monkey' in his Guild slot, perhaps Trakkee could cross-reference the Guild with the group name and, if both have the same Game and Server fields, you might be given an option to confirm that Monkey McMonkeyface is part of the group you've made, House Monkey.

...Am I making any sense?

Hi Ayalessa,

Aye we've been considering how to handle this a bit over the past few days actually, and some method of automating may work between the two, thanks for your suggestions on this =)

Trakkee's terribly cool, and I hope that you guys add an option into MMO Guildsites to link into website. Maybe under the character pages, but who knows.

I may have missed it while I was fussing around with it last night, but is there a way to organize a list of different links, pictures, images per character instead of just having to pour through the feed? Maybe as a sidebar feature?

Hi Esere,

Thanks for your feedback =)

We do have quite a few plans for Trakkee, though we wanted to launch it a little light on features first, to get some feedback and see what users suggest (and so we don't add features users don't want); but more integration with MMO Guildsites will for sure be coming in the future... we recently added, per Ayalessa's suggestion, to allow you to easily invite your guild mates to Trakkee (you can currently go to the friendships -> mmoguildsites page, which will list your guild mates for you)

We are quickly seeing more ways to organize and sort the info you want to see, both globally and per character, as you mention is something that is likely going to be needed, so that likely will be coming soon to Trakkee =)
